The executive director of the Association of Kosovo municipalities, Saban Ibrahimi, has supported the initiative of the amendment to the union of Mitrovica, but has said that this goal cannot be realised only through one initiative.
He has these comments in Klan Kosova, adding that Mitrovica Mayor Agim Bahtiri is authorised by the Municipal Assembly to lead the initiative.
“Po is becoming the initiative for the amendment to municipal borders, and after that the process can be achieved by the union of Mitrovica”.
“This is not the first time a municipality makes such a request and now let's see what the ministry's upcoming decision for Local Power Management” will be.
The amendment of this law can also be reached in the Kosovo Assembly, where 61x1 votes are needed.
“Should be stressed that small municipalities that two years are taking such an initiative and cannot achieve anything”.
“Bahtiri is mandated by the Municipal Assembly to take up this initiative. There have been other laws that have been preceded by the Ahtisaari Pack, but with time have been changed. We have laws where two-thirds of the votes are needed in the Kosovo Parliament to change”.
“Therefore the amendment of this law does not mean Mitrovica was joined. But other procedures that are expected to take place after this” must be followed.
“No citizens think the union of Mitrovica has become only with the taking of this key initiative”
