Germany's government called on Kosovo and Serbian governments to avoid escalating tensions between them and to return dialogue.
spokesman Stephen Seibert also criticised Serbia's campaign to undermine Kosovo's membership in the international police agency, Interpol, and Kosovo for imposing a 100% tax on products imported from Serbia.
“Call on all sides to avoid escalation”, Seibert said in Berlin, adding that normalising Serbia-Kosovo relations is a prerequisite for Serbia's accession talks in the European Union, the DPA reports.
The government in Pristina has blamed, as it has said, Serbia's “wild campaign” to prevent Kosovo's membership in Interpol, during a vote that has been held this month.
Kosovo authorities last week have increased the tax on products imported from Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina from 10 per cent to 100 per cent.
