Croatia Condemns Yugoslav War Crimes General

Djukqi, now 70, was convicted of miniming the Peruca dam near the Croatian town of Sinj on January 28th 1993.
“Gjukiq planned and organised the dam collapse with the aim of killing Sinj area, from Trillji to Omis, an area in which there are about 50,000 residents,” Judge Slavko Lozina said.
<x0 tonnes of TNT explosives were placed on the base of the dam, and when he took command to detonate them, he ordered his subordinates to activate explosives and they did so and damaged the dam, the bridge, the tower and the HEP building (Croatian Electrical Energy Company)” added Lozina.
The dam was partially damaged, but hydropower workers managed to prevent their total destruction.
The court ordered Djukkiqi to pay compensation for the damage within four years if the ruling is made of a formal form.
Djukkiq was arrested by Montenegrin authorities in the coastal town of Tivat, based on an Interpol arrest warrant in July 2015 and extradited to Croatia in March 2016.
His trial in Split began in July 2016 and he pleaded not guilty.
According to local media reports, Djukkiq has also been charged in Croatia with war crimes against civilians.
He is accused of ordering attacks on civilian settlements in the Sibenik area from August 1991 to August 1995, reports said. / BIRN
