Former British Government Cabinet Secretary and Britain's Civil Service chief Sir Jeremy Heywood has died of cancer at the age of 56, the Prime Minister's Office reports.
His wife said that Heywood died Sunday morning. He announced his retirement for health reasons late last month, as he had already received medical rest after cancer diagnosis last June.
Heywood served in the government of Tony Blair and Gordon Brown, while being appointed to the position of Secretary of the Government Cabinet during the reign of David Cameron. Prime Minister May called his death “a major loss for public life” and said it was a pity that Heywood could not serve for a longer time for the country even during retirement.
His wife stated that he considered it a great privilege to work closely with the four prime ministers and that she was reluctant to help each of them achieve their goals. It's professional life, it stood out with respect and love among his society. He had the ability to make every party or any warm and pleasant conversation”, she declared.
The British Parliament's MP, Yvette Cooper, could not hold back tears while talking about the death of Heywood. “People are unaware of how much important it has done for the country and how successfully it has solved many difficult problems as an honest public servant. His contribution to all governments, despite party differences, was extraordinary and we owe his gratitude and thanks to”, she said, writes the “The Guardian”.
