American Embassy for Thaci-Put meeting declared

The American Embassy in Kosovo has commented in some form on Kosovo President Hashim Thaci's meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, days ago in Paris, saying that Kosovo, as a state, needs its leaders to have a spirit of co-operation with others.

The United States continues to support dialogue as a means to achieve normalisation of relations with Serbia and which is essential to Kosovo's future. The political leadership, regardless of the party, must find common ground regarding Kosovo's intentions and follow a path forward that reflects the interests of all its people”, the embassy for Kosovo Presses says.

In turn, they say that Kosovo needs an extraordinary and urgent need for its leaders to have this spirit of cooperation to achieve progress.

Some opposition parties in Kosovo have criticised this meeting between Thaci and Putin, while power has said it is up to state leaders to hold as many meetings as possible with foreign leaders.

Vetevendosje has said they must gather in the Assembly and, above all, discuss President Hashim Thaci's meeting with his Russian counterpart, who for the Movement constitutes a scandal.

Albulen Haxhiu of the Vetevendosje Movement has said it is disturbing that President Thaci is replacing allies, such as Germany, with Russia.

But, LDK's Arben Gashi, says the Thaci-Putin meeting is within the president's constitutional duties to hold meetings with foreign representatives, but if the territory issue is discussed, it is a violation.

Deputy Prime Minister Enver Hoxhaj, who comes from the PDK ranks, has said this meeting is a positive event and recognition of the reality of independent Kosovo on the part of Russia.
