Over 5 million people employed in Switzerland increase the number of foreigners

The labour market continues to benefit from the good economic situation in Switzerland. In the third quarter of 2018, the number of employed persons increased by 1.2 percent compared to the quarter of last year.

In the third quarter of the year, 5.081 million people have been in working relations in Switzerland. There has been a 0.3 percent increase for men, and 2.4 percent for women, writes Albinfo.ch.

Between the second and third quarter of 2018, the number of people employed in seasonality increased slightly to 0.5 percent. This was announced by the Swiss Federal Statistics Office (FSO), as part of the publication of the Swiss Labour Power Survey (SLFS).

The number of foreign workers increased by 2.2 percent and the locals by 0.1 percent. The largest increase is reported for foreign employees with residence permits (C). It's 3.8 percent.

According to the International Labour Office (ILO), 217,000 people were unemployed in Switzerland in the quarter of the report, about 26,000 less than a year ago. The share of the unemployed for the workforce was 4.4 percent, 0.6 percentage points lower than in the third quarter of 2018. The unemployment rate is known to be markedly higher than the estimated unemployment rate, according to the SECO, which includes only registered unemployed. This was in October at 2.4 percent.
