Away UNMIK would enjoy Pristina angry Belgrade

Pristina, Belgrade hold opposing positions on the possibility that the UN mission in Kosovo known in February U n NMIC, close. The debates over this issue have followed a letter published on American Ambassador to the United Nations social networks, Nikki Haley, who asked the Secretary General [...]
That requirement has been welcomed by the Government of Kosovo, meanwhile, by the Government of Serbia.
In a response to Radio Free Europe sent by Kosovo Government spokeswoman Donjet Gashi, the closure of this mission and the replacement of Security Council Resolution 1244 would reportedly contribute to peace and stability in the region.
“has passed the time of UNMIK and Resolution 1244, and as soon as this resolution is lifted and Kosovo membership in the UN, it would contribute peace and stability in the region”, the Kosovo Government's response said.
US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley on the last day as ambassador urged UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres to wrap up his mission UNMIK in Kosovo.
That request was rejected by Serbia's president, Aleksandar Vuciq, who said the UN peacekeepers' withdrawal from Kosovo would leave no choice for Serbia except to protect the ethnic Serb population in Kosovo”.
The “clearly Americans want to attract all that the UN represents today in Kosovo because for Americans, Kosovo is an independent and sovereign state. They want to remove the last traces of Resolution 1244 and show that their decision has been the only possible”, Vuciq has declared.
The withdrawal of UNMIK, according to him, and the formation of the Kosovo Army would bring Serbia into an extremely bad position in which, as he said, “there would be no choice but to protect our country and our people”.
However, Vuciq did not specify what shares Serbia could take if the UN mission, known as UNMIK, is to be terminated.
For Professor at the University of New John Hopkins in Washington, Daniel Serwer, this controversy is understandable since Serbia sees this mission as evidence of its sovereignty in Kosovo, which, according to him, is meaningless. Server told Balkan Radio Europe Free Radio service that the US already has a principle of completing UN missions where possible.
I am not surprised that this is why it is rejected in Belgrade because the UN presence in some way for Serbia is evidence of its sovereignty in Kosovo, which is meaningless because in reality there is no sovereignty, except north of Kosovo and some kind of control in other parts where the Serb community lives, but that Belgrade has also agreed in the Brussels agreement that the Constitution of Kosovo applies to the entire territory of Kosovo<1>, Serwer has said.
Meanwhile, mission UNMIK in Kosovo has not responded to Radio Europe Free for the mission, commitments and activities it currently has in Kosovo.
For former Kosovo Foreign Minister Skender Hyseni, the closure of the UNMIK mission could only be done through a new Security Council resolution that would replace Resolution 1244, and for that, Kosovo institutions would have to be more active and insist that in Kosovo there is no need for the UN mission.
“I strongly hope that one of the countries with veto rights -- supporters of Kosovo in this case in the US or Great Britain -- will make official request for Resolution 1244 to be closed with a new resolution UNMIK Mission”, Hyseni said.
Kosovo's <x0 institutions have had to insist on the request that I have made as foreign minister, so to continue to repeat this request in writing even at the Security Council meeting, but unfortunately it has not happened. Kosovo institutions must constantly insist that there is no longer any need for UN missions in Kosovo, that Kosovo is a state, that there are functional institutions, there are constitutions, there is order, there is law and there is no need to be offered to UN services through a mission in Kosovo”, Hyseni stressed.
Mission UNMIK is neutral towards Kosovo's status and acts according to UN Resolution 1244, which has been a compromise between Western countries and Russia to end the Kosovo conflict.
The purpose of this mission is to take care of peace, security, rule of law in Kosovo. This mission used to count 15 grand and today it's about 380. The budget of this mission from June 2017 to June 2018 has been around 38m euros.
After declaring independence on February 17th, 2008, Kosovo institutions have officially said Resolution 1244 is exceeded and does not represent the new reality and that the mission UNMIK no longer functions in Kosovo.
Official Pristina has demanded that mission I UNMIK is reformed and remains only as a UN representative office in Kosovo.
