For some children, the language of learning can be very challenging, making sessions of stressful speech therapy and not very entertaining.
But everything changes when a dog is installed instead.
The study included 69 children with the problem. Researchers found that when a therapeutic dog attended sessions, children were better able to imitate communication signals. This involved copying facial expressions, such as blindfolding, closing eyes, filling the pages with air and laughter.
Researchers said in a press release that more research is needed, especially with a larger group of children, to know what useful dogs will be for therapy to help children with language.
