Secretary - General NATO, Jens Stoltenberg, announced today that it expects negotiations on Macedonia's membership in the Alliance to be finalised by January 2019.

“The accession negotiations have already begun and I expect them to be completed by January of next year”, Stoltenberg said at a press conference prior to NATO's ministerial meeting in Brussels.

According to NATO's website, he said the Alliance “has closely followed the consultative referendum held Sunday in the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia”.
