The U.S. Department of Justice reports today that an operative of the Chinese State Security Ministry has been charged with economic spying and attempted to steal trade secrets from several US airline companies.
Chinese operation Su Yangjun was arrested in Belgium in April following an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigations and the US surrendered on Tuesday, Kosovo Press broadcasts.
The incident states that around December 2013, aviation companies were targeted by a Chinese intelligence agent and among them are GE Avivation, a subsidiary of General Electric, the leading producer of turbo-movors and producer of parts for commercial, military, commercial and general aviation planes, Reuters reports.
China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesman Lu Kang called these charges “pure variations”.
“We hope that the American side with justice and in accordance with the law will protect the rights of a Chinese citizen”, he said.
