The Scots voted to stay in the European Union in 2016 by a large margin, but Britain as a whole voted to leave. The Brexi process has made the nationalist government of Scotland increasingly linked to the conservative leadership of Great Britain.
Scotland rejected independence by a 10 per cent margin in a 2014 referendum. Most surveys show public support for Scottish independence from Great Britain, caught at the same level as 45 per cent since the 2014 vote, though a recent poll has shown support for a split from the United Kingdom, seen as a sign of dissatisfaction over Brex.
