Traditionally, marriage is viewed as a sacred bond that would last until death.
But many young people now believe that marriage should be more like a telephone agreement that can be renewed, researchers say.
They found that a quarter of youths aged 18-24 think marriage should be a temporary contract with a renovation date and the possibility to improve “partner.
A third of this age group also supports polygamy (marriage with more than one partner), and 30 percent support what people can move between different partners.
Colin Hart, from Coalition for Marriage survey organisers, said the findings were “extremely disturbing”.
He added: “
The survey, which included 2002 young people of all age groups, also found that 70 percent thought there should be a legal period “cooling” before the divorce to give couples a chance to change their minds.
