Neither the State Prosecutor's Investigations nor the rises of charges by the latter are stopping <x0vala” of veterans, who financially benefit from the state budget.
Last month (September) the number of retired veterans has reached 38.184, increasing for about 1,400 people within a nine-month period, from January to September 2018 respectively. Only for this period of time, January 2018, over 57m euros have been spent from the budget for veterans' pensions, writes “Voice”.
Otherwise, the State Prosecutor has doubts that there are about 20,000 false veterans on veterans' lists who receive pensions from the state.
Inflated veterans' lists and continued increase in pension beneficiaries representatives of the War Veterans Organisation ( The KLA's OVL are warning possible protests if the number has marked increases.
The chairman of this organisation, Hysni Gucati, in a proposal for the newspaper “Voice”, following increased information about the number, has indicated that a meeting will be held next week, and if the increased number is proven, they will take measures with protest organisation.
“I don't have accurate information on whether the number of veterans has increased. We heard it through the media. But if the number keeps rising, it's disturbing for us. I've already raised the voice that the number is too big. For us, if the number continues to grow, it's disturbing”, Gucati has declared.
According to Gucati, despite the benefits, soldiers' struggle and their works cannot be tarnished.
In reality, the work and deeds of soldiers cannot be tarnished by anyone because they stain themselves. We have fought for our people. If I investigate within the week that the number has increased, be convinced that I'm going to call all the media and veterans' organizations to react very harshly, maybe I'll call the Steering Council even for any protest”, he added further.
Even the Special Prosecutor to file the indictment against the former head of the Government Commission for recognition and Verification of Vetrani Status said that from illegal payments thus far, the state budget has been damaged by no less than 68m and 153 thousand and 14 euros.
