According to the United Nations, October 17 of each year marks the International Day for Poverty Reduction.
Since 1993, people have been aware of the need for global poverty and especially in developing countries. Various non-government organisations and charity communities support this day by calling on leaders and government officials to make the fight against poverty a priority in their agenda.
On October 17, 1987, more than 100,000 gathered in Paris to honor victims of extreme poverty, violence, and hunger. From then on, individuals and organizations worldwide view October 17 as a day in which their commitment to end poverty can be remembered.
And since October 17 was recognized as an official day in 1993, in many other countries this day has been commemorated since 1987.
