The Islamic Community of Kosovo on Saturday is expected to elect its new chairman. It is expected that for a fourth term, Naim Ternava will rerun, the person currently holding the BIK's top post.
The Election Assembly of the Islamic Community of Kosovo will be held early Saturday at 10:00.
BIK Secretary General Resul Rexhepi confirmed this.
And although no one has yet formalised its candidacy, Naim Ternava will also be challenged by other counterCandids, which are expected to number more than two.
According to Resul Rexhepi, an individual cannot propose himself as a candidate in the post.
He's telling news. We know only BIK subjects can do that. And for a candidate to proceed further on his candidacy, his name must be proposed by more than five subjects.
The process in us is not like that in political parties. We have no right to bid ourselves. But, if a subject justly consisting of Islamic Community Councils, and those examples propose to me, which should be more than five, then they give me the legitimacy to continue in the race for my mufti's election. So we have no right to propose ourselves”, Rexhepi explains.
That Ternava will be challenged by other candidates, BIK secretary himself confirms.
All the Councils have proposed their candidates, so there will be more than one”, he concluded.
However, Ternava's candidacy has not been well received in opinion and by imams in Kosovo.
