Termocentrals and stonebreakers, Kosovo's biggest air pollutors

The thermocentrics and stonebreakers operating by disrespecting environmental criteria, according to Environment and Spatial Planning Minister Albena Resiti, are the biggest air pollutants in Kosovo. In an interview, Minister Resiti has indicated that for 100 days of her governance at the helm of this ministry, she has managed to identify the main pollutors of air, but that she has announced that Kosovo's rivers are in poor condition.

Similarly, Kosovo, according to her, also faces a non-stable waste management.

“As far as improving air quality improved, we have just prepared an annual report on the state of the environment, and based on this report we have made a plan of activities for the autumn-day 2017-2018 period where we have shared our activities as minister in the short-term emergency, medium-term and long-term plan. In the short term, we have only started to act by preparing a group of experts who have worked intensively on creating an identifying group of pollutors in all Kosovo's urban countries, and during this period we have managed to change coal or coal to several schools, some children's gardens, giving a confiscated wooden alternative. This is done with the goal of influencing human sensitivity and awareness of the importance of not using coals on fuel in family economies and small businesses, Resitij said.

Days earlier, the Government of Kosovo has signed agreements on the start of construction of the <x0 thermal power plant, New Kosovo, and the construction of this thermal power plant, according to the minister, will impact the decrease of air pollution.

I think I'm going to have a marked impact on lowering air pollution. We also as minister do monitoring and controlling air pollution levels throughout Kosovo, especially with the biggest pollutants, in this case being thermal power plants. I am happy that a European-standard thermal power plant will be built. Also, since I am part of the government's power plant construction commission, I have lobbied throughout the stages of preparation to sign the contract so that we can build a new thermal power plant with European standards in terms of quality of filters that will be passed on and asked that these filters be with the latest technological standards”, Minister Resiti said.

One of the problems in Kosovo, according to the minister, is the large number of construction without permission, while said that in its 100 days at the helm of this ministry, they have managed to proceed to the Government draft law on handling construction without permission.

“A law which had stayed long in the drawer and was not prosecuted in Government. We took it very seriously... It has been prosecuted in the Assembly and the parliamentary commission and approved in the first reading and is expected to be approved in second reading by the Parliament. I believe that this issue will have a huge impact on solving many problems in construction without permission. There are about 350 thousand illegal construction throughout Kosovo. That's why I think the work we've done during this hundred days is to be praised”, the minister said.

Minister Resitij has announced her priorities at the helm of this ministry.

Improved, management and monitoring the environment and air situation, waste management, rehabilitation of beds in Kosovo, monitoring protected areas by law, then, a special monitoring and care of biodiversity. Then, empowering spatial planning, construction, residence, land administration and cadastre development, control for halting interventions in the particular protected area.

Minister Resiti has said that even greater awareness of citizens is needed to improve the state of the environment in Kosovo, while saying that there will be many activities and projects that, according to her, will affect citizens' awareness of environmental protection. /Indesksonline
