According to the media communiqué, focusing on the challenges which are present for recruiting staff in the metal industry, how easy it is to recruit students to professional schools, and how much existing skills match market needs.
The conference also discussed the importance and export requirements for the metal industry.
Kosovo Producers Club Executive Director Astrit Panja opened the conference, which praised that this topic is of particular importance, as the metal industry is the potential sector in Kosovo's economic development.
The production club under the strategy has four pillars of economic development, pillars that include employment, economic diplomacy, energy and the environment.
“Without skillful workers, there can be no sustainable development. It is noteworthy that only with the construction of the new Kosovo thermal power plant, which is investment around 1.3 billion euros, will there be a need for qualified workers, it is good for this investment to remain in Kosovo” said Panja.
Timothy Sparkman, director of the EYE programme, said this four-year project of the Swiss Office for Co-operation is aimed at systematically developing a long-term partnership with the private sector, supporting employment opportunities and facilitating transition to the labour market.
Timothy Sparkman noted that the result of multiple conversations and reports is the skills gap, there is a huge demand for employment, but the unemployment rate is also large, especially in welding.

Economic Development Minister Valdrin Luka expressed readiness to improve the current situation and announced that with the economic development strategy, construction of the Kosova e Re thermal power plant, the mining sector and the development of Trepca, where foreign investment will be involved.
