Kosovo police say investigations into the murder of Oliver Ivanovic are under way with full intensity on the part of the investigative processing group, operating under the supervision of the State Prosecutor.
Oliver Ivanovic, was shot dead on 16 January in front of his party headquarters in northern Mitrovica. He was the leader of the Serbian civic initiative, “Freedom, Democracy and Justice”.
Besim Hoti, deputy director of the Kosovo Police in the northern Mitrovica region, told Radio Free Europe that until this phase of investigations, there are still no suspects in the case, but that investigations, according to him, are being conducted with an intensity added by competent authorities.
“Flas for a dynamic of continuous work, analysis of facts and evidence that have gathered, receiving witness statements and processing all these evidence. Otherwise, we don't have a”, Hoti said.
Authorities in Belgrade have addressed a request to the Ministry of Justice in the Government of Kosovo for exchange of information about the case. But, according to police, both local and outside information is still in the screening phase, but there is still no lead on suspicion.
“We don't have information which at this stage can be made public for public opinion”, Hoti said.
Otherwise, in the northern part of Kosovo on the day of the assassination that Ivanovic has been found, a burnt car, which according to the examination, originated in Serbia. However, it has not yet been proven whether this car has direct links to the case, respectively, with Ivanovic's murder, but is one of the investigative tracks.
Meanwhile, security issues experts in Kosovo consider it a difficult mission to clarify investigations or identify the author of Oliver Ivanovic's assassination.
Security Affairs Director Naim Maloku doubts there may be real co-operation between the Kosovo and Serbian investigative bodies.
“Inventions are under way, but I don't think there will be any ID and the patterns that led to Oliver Ivanovic's murder. I think that there will be no genuine co-operation between the Kosovo and Serbian investigative bodies. I am convinced that this is a political murder”, Maloku told Radio Free Europe.
Otherwise, Ivanovic's murder has been condemned by local and international institutions. Numerous dilemmas had also been set up for the effects and escalation of the security situation, but according to government authorities in the country, these warnings were not real.
Even analyst Naim Maloku considers that the country's security situation is calm and that Ivanovic's murder cannot produce any possible incidents or tension.
“The situation is what it was before this assassination. I think the situation in the north has remained just as it has been with those problems that Kosovo faces in that part, and I think there will be no reflection of uncertainty in the country”, Maloku points out.
Following Oliver Ivanovic's assassination over the weekend, several Serb-run municipalities and facilities in Kosovo also visited Serbia's president, Aleksandar Vuciq.
