In Kosovo, air pollutors are numerous. And the quality of the air is apparently worse during October period. That's what experts on this field said on the “Face” show on Tv Dukagujini.
Environmental Protection Agency chief Ilir Morina has stressed that the largest air pollution in the country is between October and February, clarifying that air pollution occurs by various components, such as meteorological changes, automotive fuels, thermal power plants and heating that take place at home.
“Industria, in addition to KEK, other smelters, recycling centers of different types of chemicals and colors, are other pollutants, even if they're in sets of allowed rates”, Morina stressed.
According to him, the Pristina region remains the most polluted region in Kosovo, as opposed to the play of Dukagjin, the environment in which it is cleaner.
In Drenas we've had a dust loss, or we'll get it on Han, Elez, because of Sharcemit, we have a bad condition. Mitrovica has always high limits and the whole region of Pristina, which is represented the most polluted”, Morina has stressed.
He has clarified that in 2016 more than 500 indictments were filed against economic operators, who pollute the environment but, according to him, the courts have taken action of only 20 of them.
“KEK remains one of the biggest pollutants, then the stonebreakers. As long as we've filed a lot of lawsuits for river destroyers, which most of them haven't been convicted, disfellowship some case”, he said.
According to him, passing average air pollution rates over 35 days in a year is considered normal. And according to him, the number of days in which air has disturbing pollution goes to 76 days.
When we have these overpasses, health and biodiversity impacts occur, because we have land contamination and water damage, etc.”, Morina added.
He's further said that the evaluation that we have air pollution and population security, is causing confusion among ordinary people, adding that he begged them not to deal with subjects they don't know.
According to him, on the agency's website, which he runs, he publishes the air pollution data every day in Kosovo, and that there are even several-day or weekly reports.
Morina has expressed concern about the lack of environmentally related law enforcement, adding that there are also deficits of experts in the field and that work in most cases is not done responsibly.
While environmental expert Behxhet Mustafa has stated on the show “Face” that KEK thermal power plants and cars are the biggest pollutants in Kosovo.
According to him, there should be more institutional care for this area in the future.
