German Chancellor Angela Merkel said her conservative bloc and the social-democrats continue to have obstacles that must be clarified before entering formal talks for the coalition.
Speaking on the last day of the exploratory talks, Merkel said it would be “a difficult day”, but that “would be engaged with all energy”.
Merkel said the Germans expect results. More than three months after federal elections, Germany still has no government.
Merkel, aimed at the fourth term as Chancellor, is counting on successful talks with the Social Democrats, on forming “the major coalition”.
A similar coalition has led Germany, the largest economy in Europe, from 2013 to 2017.
