The statement reportedly is the latest sign of increased Russian maritime activity near British waters during the holiday season.
Royal Navy Westminster was sent to monitor the movement of four Russian ships over the weekend, which were passing near British waters and heading north, broadcast Reuters.
Russian ships with relief boats are believed to be returning from operations in the Middle East.
“La Manche is very important for Great Britain and it is important that Westminster and the Royal Navy see the key strategic connection”, the statement said.
