If Serbia's leadership -- and if the people -- want the path of the European Union, dialogue with Kosovo must continue, says political analyst Dusan Janjic.
Serbia, with chapter 35, which, among other things, is obliged not to block Pristina during membership in international organisations. After Ivanovic's murder, all should have it clear how important Kosovo is and why this issue should be resolved as soon as possible, Janjaq has said, Coha.net broadcasts.
Technical dialogue, he thinks, will continue next week, and changes in the format of political dialogue will occur.
“Dialogue is a way to solve the problem. We're seeing their heads drop because of the vacuum that reigns in northern Mitrovica ... Yet there is awareness that the problem has to be solved and now it's the moment”, “blic” quoted “Belgrade's Janjaq has said.
He added that the signing of the binding document was preceded five years ago and that whether it will be signed depends exclusively on Serbia's leadership, whether it wants it or not, but also “if citizens want to enter the EU and if they want to, then something else must be done”.
By December 31st 2023, Janjic explains, Serbia must close all chapters, including 35, where it stresses that the binding agreement of Belgrade and Pristina should be signed and that Serbia, until membership, has two more years to change the judicial system and the Constitution.
This agreement can be signed in 2019 or by half of 2020. In the opinion, it is often suggested that Serbia should recognise Kosovo's independence. It should not, but Serbia dares not prevent Kosovo's membership in international organisations, has ended Janjic.
