Official results after the count of 96.87% of the ballots show Zaman has won 51.9.5% of the vote, while his pro-European rival, Jiri Drahos, has won 48.04%. Mr. Drahos has accepted defeat.
Zaman, 73, has been president of Czechia since 2003, which is largely ceremonial.
It has caused controversy by expressing views against migrants, then by denigration of Muslims and improving reports with Russia's President Vladimir Putin, at a time when many in Europe have expressed concern about Moscow's involvement in affairs and Western elections.
Zaman also aims at closer relations with China.

Drahos was once chairman of the Czech Academy of Sciences.
