Former Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadeen has been arrested because of the support of antigovernmental protests in the country, the newspaper Al-Quds al-Arab writes, referring to sources in Tehran.
Ahmadidead has been arrested with approval of the supreme leader of the Islamic Republic, Ali Hamnei, during his visit to the town of Chiraz.
The reason for his arrest are his statements in anti-government protests, which in Tehran are considered a call for “inciting unrest”.
He has stressed that “people are disappointed” by President Hasan Rouhani's government, accusing them of monopolising power.
