Six million Jews were killed in the Nazi systematic attempt to exterminate them.
The UN General Assembly set 27 January as the International Memorial Day of Holocaust Victims, which coincided with the anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau death camps in 1945.
An important role in saving Jews has been played by Albanians who in their families have sheltered many Jews who had fled other countries, or lived in Kosovo and Albania.
