Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj has appeared on the premises of the Parliament's Headship by bicycle. Invited to sign co-operation agreement between Albania's Parliament, U NICEF for partnership in the progress of children's rights, Mayor Veliaj took advantage of the case and chose the bicycle.
Within days the streets of the capital are expected to be filled by 4 thousand new bicycles, which will be used by citizens in every corner of Tirana.
They will be equipped with GPS systems that can easily be found by citizens via their telephone and will be in service of citizens towards an even smaller fee than a bus ticket.
Since coming to Tirana's mayor, one of Veliaj's ambitions has been and the creation of a larger network of bicycle-dedicated lanes, the Albanian media write.
The first stage in which they are predicted to build 10 kilometers of these has already begun. With this network of bicycle lanes added but also with the favorable time Tirana offers, there will no longer be an excuse for anyone not using a bicycle as a means of movement, not only as an ecological tool but also as a way to maintain a healthy physical body.
