In an interview given the newspaper “The New Age”, Selimi has said the VV does so for the sake of Kosovo and the KLA, not for the sake of President Hashim Thaci.
He has criticised the country's president for hiding behind several initiatives and that he is manipulating as if two years ago with the fate of the KLA war
Mr. Selimi, how was this year we're leaving behind for Vetevendosje Movement?
Selimi: This year for Vetevendosje Movement was a year of political challenges and victory. We did the first political force in the country after the June elections, therefore the largest parliamentary group in the Kosovo Assembly. We won again in Pristina in local elections and won both Prizren and Dardan. Besides ruling in three municipalities, two of them are the largest centres in Kosovo. Beyond that, we lead the Kosovo capital, Pristina and the historic capital of Albanians, Prizren. Also, in the Assembly, in addition to being the first force with 32 deputies, we have also come out victorious against the challenges of demarcation with Montenegro and {Zayednica. We have already increased our numeric power in the Assembly by making it impossible for the government to have no two-thirds, but not a stable majority for serious decisions as the prior government had. So the next year was a year of great challenges and victories of our Movement.
:The result of the Vetevendosje Movement in the June elections was quite good, but the same was not for local elections. What do you think has affected the note of these results?
Selimi: In the June elections, we marked increases until the double of our parliamentary power, while in local elections, from a municipality we won in the preliminary elections, we added it to Prizren and Dardana. The increase, whether in parliamentary elections or local elections, has come as a result of what our Movement represents, as a result of our activism, and as a result that Kosovo citizens have managed to understand more clearly the situation we are in.
These results have come under a bit of a collision shadow that swept through the movement. Why did this happen?
Selimi: You might be right. The debate within the movement has indeed become very important, not just for movement. This debate is already under way with a certain dynamic and has taken on much space in the media and opinion. But after this open debate, eventually the word is democracy in the domestic elections we are already in.
Can these differences be avoided within the Vetevendosje Movement?
Selimi: Democracy is the epilogue of this debate.
The General Council of Vetevendosje Movement has announced domestic elections to overcome this situation. While the deputy of this political subject, Albin Kurti, has announced candidacy for the party's first. Do you support Kurt?
Selimi: So far we have only one candidacy. I don't know if there'll be another candidate for chairmanship. The chairman of the Movement is elected by secret votes, and by principle a member of a vote. The result of a fair process and the majority's decision will be respected and acceptable to me, as it should be of all people.
Finally, several ruling coalition deputies have launched a legal initiative to abolish the Special Court Law. What is LV's position on this issue?
Selimi: Vetevendosje Movement's attitude towards this court is the same as it was in 2015 when we rejected it. We have told both the initial deputies, as well as the opinion, that Vetevendosje Movement considers the Special Court unfair for The KLA, which we had rejected two years ago and was sponsored by the then government and voted after intense pressure on his party, even on the part of the prime minister. Both in 2015 and whenever it comes to the session, we will have the same appreciation for this court. To our memory, PDK, LDK and Serbian List had voted against Special Court The KLA on August 3rd 2015, with several exceptions from several PDK deputies still failing to influence it. But we had opposed Vetevendosje and the opposition parties back then. We would abolish this court whenever we were given the opportunity, and we do so for the sake of Kosovo and the KLA, not for Thaci's sake, who is hiding behind several initiatives and manipulating again as if two years ago the fate of the KLA war.
The Haradinaj-led government has taken 100 days. What do you think of her these days?
Selimi: I have not expected any success of this government. Its 100-day index is currently a non-functional government. The 100th day of the PAN government is disappointing not only for citizens but, perhaps, for government officials as well.
