Turkey's President, Recep Tayip Erdogan, said he would not resign from the operation against a Kurdish-led enclave in northern Syria that has caused concern in Ankara's allies.
Erdogan made comments Monday, on the third day of the offensive, despite US warnings that the operation could destabilise the area away.
Turkish media said the troops, accompanied by Syrian Allied rebels, have seized several areas around the town of Africa.
“We are committed, Africa will be selected”, Erdogan said in a direct television address in Ankara. “We have talked about this offensive even with our Russian friends; we have agreements”, Erdogan said.
The Kurdish militia, which controls a large part of the territory in northeast Syria, is named by Ankara as a terrorist group and as the branch of the Kurdistan Workers' Party.
The latter has been fighting for Kurdish autonomy in Turkey for three decades. (REL)
