October for the construction sector in Croatia was one of the best in recent years. Compared to a month ago, the volume of work increased by over 3 percent and 4.6 percent compared with October 2016.
“The result is a good product of tax policy and the use of EU funds. That's all the result of the construction somehow returning to glorious times”, says Mirjana Chagal, deputy head of the Chamber of Commerce for Construction. But, Croats find it difficult to find construction workers, despite the net wage amounting to a thousand euros, Kosovo Press broadcasts.
Dragutin Kamenski, owner of the construction company, says that in recent years a number of construction sites have not been opened due to the lack of construction workers.
He recalls that over the past decade, Croatia faced the departure of over 50,000 construction workers because they sought a better life abroad.
In Croatia it is impossible to find qualified and quality workers. Average salaries are somewhere between 800 and 1,000 euros neto”, Kamenski says. This could also delay the construction of many new hotels, the tourism minister recently announced.
Builders have asked for permission from the government to triple the number of foreign workers, so all 12,170 foreign construction workers can work in the Croatian skeleton.
