On 10 October of last year Kosovo Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj and British Ambassador to Kosovo Ruairí O'Connell, they put their signatures in a memorandum of understanding. They agreed that the embassy would assist in recruiting creditable people on board public enterprises. But, when not even 3 months have passed since the signing of this memorandum, the Government of Kosovo violated it.
Officials of this embassy have confirmed to the newspaper “Voice” that they have left the Commission for the appointment of members on the Board of “Trepca” at the request of the Government of Kosovo. That happened despite the fact that the two sides had initially agreed to be also experts from the Embassy in the Commission. But everything changed in the end.
The Trepca Board was originally on the agreed list where we would be engaged. But at the request of the Government of Kosovo we have withdrawn from this process”, says in a response to the newspaper “Voice” from the Great Britain Embassy in Kosovo.
Already, the Commission for the appointment of members to the Board of “Three” has been constitutionalised, while on January 23rd 2018 the review of 100 candidates will begin, as many as running. From the embassy, they say the memorandum remains in force, even though it suggests that the government's recent actions could question the entire project.
“Nepotism continues to remain the vital threat to Kosovo. This project is helping to combat this phenomenon. But, the entire project will succeed only if the Government has the political will to appoint good people through institutions and complete the employment practice with it “recognised”, the Embassy's answers are said.
