Five others have been injured during protests at the site of Tebourba, 40km from the Sunnisian capital, TAP reports.
Tunisia's Interior Minister confirmed through a statement Monday evening that a 55-year-old died in the hospital after having symptoms of dizzy.
He has suffered from a “chronic gasp, and there has been no “no sign of violence”, said a forensics who has been in charge of determining the cause of death, the Interior Ministry's statement said, reports “Al Jazeera”, broadcast Periscope.
Social media speculations Monday evening suggested that the man had died after being hit by a security forces car, but the ministry rejected that claim, saying it was possible that he was strangled by the inhaling of tear gas.
Other protests took place in a number of other parts of the country Monday, following the government's decision to raise taxes under its 2018 Finance Law.
The budget, which went into effect on 1 January, increased fuel prices and presented new tax measures related to the purchase of residences. This has led to protests in several Tunisian cities./Periscopi/
