After 5 months of victory of the inner-party election, as well as three months after defeating his republican counterCandidat in the race for the post of member of the 13th District of New York City Municipal Council, in Herbert Lehman Educational Campus, New York, at the inaugural ceremony in which they took part in the top authority of the American state, diplomatic representatives of Albania and Kosovo, as well as from the Albanian community in the US, Albanian-American assemblyist Mark John Marky pledged this post.
In this case, Kosovo Republic Ambassador to the United States Vlora Citaku said Kosovo is proud of Johnaj's achievements.
Dear Mark. We all in Kosovo are proud of you. We're proud of it.
Your new position which will certainly be a new challenge for you. Your political career on one side is a bright example of respect for the Albanian family, tradition and roots, while on the other is the best confirmation of the realisation of the American dream, which will surely serve as a guide to many other Albanians living in this magnificent country. For us, only weeks apart from Kosovo Independence Day and our existence as a state. But we would never become a state without the political, diplomatic, and military support of the United States of America. So we will be forever grateful to the state and the American people, said Ambassador Chitaku, who thanked the Albanian community in America, who had an invaluable role in senibising the Kosovo issue in American state circles.
Born and raised in Bronks in No York, as the son of an Albanian immigrant, Mark Gjonaj graduated from the Marketing field in St. John's University. Encouraged by the love of family, friends and communities as well as motivated by the difficulties his family went through and by the great opportunities offered them by the American State, Gjonaj, who from 2012 to 2017 served as an assemblyist in the 80th district, for the second time made history with the victory of the mayoral Council member of the 13th district in the Bronx of New York. While today, he crowned victory for this post in this special inaugural ceremony where he was led by wife Roberta, both sons Nicholas and Joseph, the extended family, friends, and by the Albanian community who always made them proud. While the musical group “Rosaphate” from the Cultural Centre “Mother Teresa” which operates within the Albanian Catholic Church, in NY, with a cultural-artisk programme completing the ceremony by introducing within this world the precious and ancient Albanian cultural values, with which we are adequately listed alongside other peoples.
