The Cost of Dental Service
The cost of the dentistry service in developed countries is estimated to be on average 60% lower than in developing countries, which is pushing much of them to clinics in countries like Croatia, Serbia, Macedonia, but also Albania. The head of the Association of Dentists in Albania, Mr. Dojan Hysey, has stated in a previous communication to “Monitor” that the trend of foreigners choosing Albanian clinics has increased compared to that of immigrants even because of the economic crisis that has forced them to return and live back to Albania.
However, the region is more attractive to health tourism. Revenues from health tourism in Macedonia show that this state has priority from the rest of the region. According to a Eurostat report, in 2014 revenues went to 73m euros, mainly from visiting neighbours. According to the same report, Turkish, American or Western European citizens go to Macedonia for dental services. Serbia follows Macedonia later with a total of 52m euros in revenue for health tourism in general, while Bosnia and Herzegovina stands at 48m euros.
