Reports from Iran have revealed that an 18-year-old man was executed in this country who was convicted of rape and murder of a young girl in his teens.
Iran is said to have taken such a step despite calls from the United Nations and the Amnesty International organization to halt its execution.
Chief of the judiciary, Gholamhossein Esmaili for Tehran province, has said the execution was conducted this morning, given local media reports.
Amirhossein Pourjafar, was only 16 years old when he was sentenced to death in September 2016 for acts of rape and murder of a six-year-old Afghan community girl in Iran.
Initially, the execution of Pourjafar was planned for the month of October last year, but the decision was postponed due to international pressure.
Amensty Inernational has urged Tehran to stop Pourjafar's death, saying Iran was signatory to an international treaty to prevent the execution of persons committing crimes under the age of 18.
