A group of extremists have attacked a mosque in the southeastern Netherlands, which is under construction, the Anadolu Agency reports. The far-right movement, “identair Verzet” put anti-Islamic flags on the Tevhid mosque roof that is being built in the town of Venlo.
Tevhid mosque Speaker Ahmet Dursun, in a proposal for AA, condemned the incident in question, to add that despite the great presence of right extremists in their neighbourhood, they have not expected such an attack.
We talked to the mayor and several other officials. They support us”, he said to add that they are taking necessary measures so that such a thing will not be repeated.
The group that claimed responsibility for the incident had stuck banners in which it wrote “stay away. The Netherlands belongs to us. We don't want mosques and Muslims in our neighborhood”, written in Dutch and Turkish.
They distributed the image of the patrol in the social media along with the flag attached to the mosque roof, claiming they conquered the mosque.
In the last two months, P EGIDA, another anti-Muslim right-wing movement, targeted the Selimije mosque in the town of Vegal and an elementary Islamic school in Leiden.
