In a Twitter post, Thaci has said this victory strengthens Europe and the likelihood of EU integration of Balkan countries.
“Congratulations Chancellor Merkel for the new mandate. This is a victory that strengthens Europe and strengthens the likelihood of Kosovo's integration and six Western Balkan countries”, Thaci wrote.
Election results show that ARD, the conservative coalition of Chancellor Merkel, CDU/ CSU, has won 32.5 per cent of the vote.
BBC reports that after winning about 20 per cent of the vote, the coalition government's partner, the Social Democratic Party, the SPD, has announced it will pass.
In a speech to supporters, Merkel said she hoped for a best “result“and spoke of “sfides of the largest”.
This election has surprised the far-right AfD party, which according to research, has won 13.5 per cent of the vote.
While other parties have reaped these results: FDP Liberals 10.5%, Turkey 9.5 and Die Link 9%.
The BBC estimates that if these results are confirmed, Miss Merkel needs to find new coalition partners, the process that can take several months.
