“We always have good days in Washington because Kosovo and the United States have a long and strong friendship, but today is a special day, because we are adding a friend to the long list of friends in this capital. We are signing this agreement with the MCC, and we are opening a new page of relations, focused on economic development and rule of law”, President Thaci stressed.
He further said that this agreement is a very powerful new tool of support for Kosovo citizens, and that it will help Kosovo implement projects with the MCC.
This will help Kosovo establish a foundation that will invest nearly $50m in a very focused way. These investments will help the Kosovo government and Kosovo businesses deal with electricity supply, energy savings and strengthening government transparency for citizens”, President Thaci stated.
The country's first said that since the first day of the presidency has followed the MCC process, adding that this agreement and this day have only been made possible with the great help of Congressman Engel and other congressmen.
“Thank you Congressman for your commitment to Kosovo and for bringing the MCC to Kosovo. We thank the respected members of Congress and Senate who have helped Kosovo in this process. We also thank our teams, led by Sarah Olmstad and Petrit Selimi, who have worked hard, and very soon to create projects and bring this agreement to this day”, President Thaci added.
In this case, President Thaci expressed his thanks to former President Jahjaga and former Prime Minister Mustafa for their support of the MCC.
Praising it as a holiday, President Thaci said it is a day that we celebrate this co-operation between many institutions and civil society in Kosovo, but also between Kosovo and the United States.
On the other hand, MCC Executive Chief Jonathan Nash's duty to help governments connect some of the poorest people in the world with jobs, markets and opportunities.
The US government, through the MCC, will work with the Government of Kosovo to implement political and institutional reforms that increase transparency and strengthen the country's energy sector”, he said.
Meanwhile, US Congressman Eliot Engel said that, “Kosovo is moving on the road towards Euro-Atlantic integration, and this new partnership will help delay the country towards that target”.
