Serbia's Defence Minister Aleksandar Vulin visited NATO headquarters in Brussels on Friday, where he met with Zv. NATO Secretary General Rose Gottmeler.
Vulin also met with NATO Assistant Secretary General for Defence Investments Camille Grand, said “b92”, Periscopi broadcast.
The defence ministry through a statement said Vulin and Gottteller “shared thoughts on the political and security situation in the region, as well as on current issues of co-operation under the Partnership for Peace Programme and co-operation between the Serbian Army and KFOR”.
The vulin “thanked its co-viser for the efforts he is making for the overall stabilisation of the security situation, as well as for the support and understanding of the position of the Republic of Serbia in the region and beyond”.
I repeat once again our army is not interested in becoming a member of NATO or any other military alliance, for the fact that it will continue with the policy of military neutrality, but we will take care to improve our co-operation with NATO, through the partnership for peace, whatever is useful for our country and our military, we will receive. We accept everything that will make our army better, but also everything that benefits our country and our people”, Vulin said.
During the conversation, the minister also “thanked NATO for its participation in KFOR” and said Serbia “cannot accept the formation of a Kosovo army”.
We consider a security threat and a big problem for the entire region, but we strongly support it KFOR and NATO's role in it, and we consider that KFOR's role cannot be reduced”, he said.
He also said that “Gottemeller has especially thanked President Vucic for the courage he is leading Serbia and the courage with which he is developing the internal dialogue on Kosovo. Many here and all respect our position of military neutrality and our position that we will always maintain a balanced policy when it comes to attitude towards NATO and any other military alliance”.
He stressed the need to continue negotiations aimed at finding a mutually acceptable solution to the process, which should be based on UN Security Council Resolution 1244 and the Military Technical Agreement./Periscopi/
