Russia, when it reviewed the UN Security Council resolution on North Korea, said this country would see its own interests because it is a place where these escalations of combat tensions are located, Kremlin spokesman Dimitri Peskov said on Tuesday.
Russia's “position on the adoption of this resolution is based mainly on Russian Federation interests for the fact that it is in the region where events occur, where we see a very serious escalation of tensions caused by the provocative actions of Pyongyang”, Peskov said.
“As regards discussions that have taken place with the leaders of China, South Korea and Japan (on the outskirts of the Eastern Economic Forum), certainly they have helped us seriously to see if countries in the region were at the same risk” the spokesman said.
Peskov also noted that the views of states involved in the North Korean situation were almost the same in terms of “the use of force, as well as the need to insist on de-lelarising the Korean Peninsula”.
The declaration comes a day after the UN Security Council unanimously adopted new sanctions against European in response to the most powerful North Korean nuclear test held on September 3rd.
The UN resolution prohibits Pyongyang from exporting textile, oil and refined oil products that can be imported. Natural gas and fluids are also included in the midst of articles where North Korea is limited by import exceeding UN guidelines.
When commenting on the adoption of new sanctions, US Ambassador to the UN Nickki Haley said the “strong relations” between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping played a key factor in adopting the resolution./Periscopi/
