Police encountered Scout Schultz at a campus in Atlanta after a call for “a person with a knife and a gun” late Saturday, officials say, broadcast the Kosovo Clan.
Social networking also circulated images showing 21-year-olds refusing to obey police orders to pull the knife out of hand.
Schultz's mother said police should not have used the deadly force.
In a video captured by other students of Georgia's Institute of Technology, Schultz is heard saying “Shoot me!
Schultz ʹ who identifies him as neither male nor female, said investigators, despite what was initially reported to the police.
