Have you ever wondered why hurricanes have names or how hurricanes are named? Meteorologists have long realized that naming a storm or a hurricane helps people to keep the storm in mind. This was initially done because of communication, when people have announced that the storm has hit their country, it is considered to be naming that storm.
These experts have named hurricanes based on a formal list, depending on the season they started. The U.S. International hurricane centre has started to appoint hurricanes since 1950. Now, the World Meteorology Organization, when such a storm or hurricane is recorded, is based on that formal list of hurricane names. In 1950, the U.S. International Center for Urangania began putting names in alphabetical order letters like; Able, Baker and Charlie (A, B, C). In other words, the first hurricane that struck in a season was named “Able”, or started with the letter A, while if the second hurricane occurred within the same season, it was named “Baker”, or started with the letter B.
