(9 years ago)Civic Initiative Chairman “Leri, Democracy and Justice” Oliver Ivanovic has warned that the security situation in northern Kosovo ahead of local elections is critical and can easily escalate, so he has called on Kosovo institutions, those in Belgrade, as well as international ones to react urgently, writes Serbian Blitz, broadcast Periscope. “The situation now is like dancing on top of the knife. It's a matter of time for someone to pull a gun and end up tragically”, Ivanovic said.
According to him, the government should take measures to boost security in northern Mitrovica.
“According to Serbian List candidates, local elections are being taken as a matter of life or death. I'm in everyday contact with ordinary people there, and they're worrying about the security situation every day. They are afraid”, Ivanovic added, broadcast Periscopi.
Furthermore, Ivanovic says that all North Mitrovica citizens are looking for is a better and more peaceful life so that children are not afraid of shooting.
Local issues do not address global issues. Our goal is to ensure a quality life for the citizens of Mitrovica”, he said./Periscopi
