The U.S. Embassy in Kosovo has reacted after the Supreme Court's recent decision about reservating previously qualified candidates based on the Law on Elections.
Full response:
Today's decision by the Central Election Commission (KQZ) applies the Supreme Court's orders for reservating previously qualified candidates based on the Law on Elections. We understand the CEC's decision to return the 89 candidates to the disqualified in response to the Court's decision. However, we regret that the outcome of this decision will reverse the fine work of the CEC and the Electoral Panel for Anxiety and Parashtre (PZAP) to implement the initial ban on the Election Law on not allowing the candidacy of candidates convicted of criminal work. We continue to support the spirit and purpose of that provision of the Law for Choice. We invite relevant state institutions to correct any legal uncertainty regarding this provision prior to the upcoming election cycle in Kosovo. We believe voters are seeking untainted crime candidates.
