The phenomenon of loading election lists with dead persons is expected to be less disturbing in local elections, which will be held on October 22nd.
After the national elections, which were held on 11 June, voter lists have managed to clear up more than 4 thousand and 656 people, meanwhile for the June 11th 2017 elections, the number of people who died from the Vote list has been more than 33 thousand.
CEC spokesman Valmir Elezi, in a proposal for Indexline, has said that progress has been achieved in this direction by removing from the list people who for various reasons have not had the right to vote including the dead.
“After the Kosovo Parliamentary Elections, which were held on 11 June, the Central Election Commission in co-operation with the Civil Recording Agency has continued working towards improving the Vote List. In this direction we have had results after 4 thousand and 656 people have left the Voter List. These are names of dead persons or have given up Kosovo's substate. The overwhelming part of them are dead persons who have left the Voter List with the intention of cleaning it”, he said.
Elez has stressed that holding local elections takes place at a relatively close time with national elections held on June 11th, where improving the lists would also affect the quality of the local election list.
“We need to keep in mind a fact that the October Local Elections are held at a very close time with those parliamentary ones held in June, so even the improvement of the Vote List for the June 11th elections affects the quality of the Voter List for Local Elections”, Elez said.
