Concern: 30 thousand types of drugs in Kosovo

Young people in Kosovo are not at all sure about the use of drugs. The cases of narcotics users have increased especially among children in high schools, but in cases even among elementary schools.

Although it has been constantly worked on conscious awareness of the prevention of drug consumption, the use of drugs still remains a growing problem.

The use of drugs in Kosovo has no national record.

However, statistics that are mainly from various researches speak of very high numbers of narcotics users.

“National drug use statistical data does not exist, but according to various research, and according to expert assessments of the field, there are about 5,000 drug-related users, while 2025 thousand drug-recreasing users”, said in a research by the Labyrint rehabilitation Centre, the Word newspaper.

This becomes even more disturbing, considering that the average age of drug use over the past few years is dropping every day.

In Kosovo, according to research, mostly young people are the ones who are continuing to remain faithful users of drugs. According to the rehabilitation centre “Labyrint”, the average age of starting drug use, is 16.5 years old.

This indicates that drug use begins as a teenager and continues for a long period of life.

Kosovo youth are preferring mostly the type of Canabis drug, then comes Cocaine and other drugs from nightclubs.

Drug use is also constantly associated with serious health consequences.

232 reported for nine months in the capital

According to Kosovo police, from January this year to now, a total of 232 cases have been reported for narcotics use.

“Such cases, illegal possession of narcotic substances, at the Regional Police Directorate in Pristina since January 1st 2017 until now have been initiated in all 231”, a police communiqué reported.

Police explain that out of 21 leaflets, 9 have been pronounced in the direction of the alcohol-influencing vehicle.

This year, Pristina Centre station police units have undertaken an operation on several streets in the city.
