It may sound like a joke, but at the height of tensions between the US and Russia, President Donald Trump makes an unusual statement.
Asked by a journalist during the press conference how he will react to the fact that Russia has expelled 755 American diplomats, the American president said he thanks the Russian president for the move.
I want to thank the Russian president, we were planning to cut. I'm glad he kicked out a lot of people, now we have less pay to give”.
There is no reason for American diplomats to return to Russia. I thank the Russians for cutting us off. We're gonna save a lot of money”.
Russia decided to expel 755 American diplomats, demanding that the American diplomatic presence in Russia not exceed 455 people.
This was seen as a sign of straining relations between the two countries.
However, many have asked why the US has so many embassy employees in Russia.
