At least 20 others have been injured, when a van has deliberately violated people in the Las Ramblas region in the center of town.
Two people suspected of the attack reportedly have been stuck in a nearby restaurant.
The president of Catalonia has suspended his vacation and has returned to Barcelona urgently.
Transport services have been terminated
