North Korea has criticised today the US decision to ban American citizens from visiting this country, the state agency KCNA has announced.
The agency writes that there is no reason for foreigners to feel threatened in North Korea.
Our “Our hands are open to all Americans of goodwill who visit our country and want to see our reality”, said an unnamed spokesman for the North Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The U.S. State Department earlier announced that the stop will take effect on September 1st, and that there may be exceptions to humanitarian journalists and workers.
The ban was imposed after the death of American student Otto Winter, who in North Korea has been sentenced to 15 years of hard work because of attempted theft.
According to some estimates, up to 5,000 people visit North Korea annually, and several hundred Americans are among them.
