High temperatures recorded in Italy last week have marked the country's glaciers, with a summer ski resort in Stelvio Pass that has been forced to make the historic decision and suspend activities due to the serious state of the Alpine glacier.

Much of southern and eastern Europe is melting under temperatures of over 40 degrees Celsius as a result of a heat wave called “Lucifer”, which has caused forest fires to spread, damage crops, and forced authorities to issue warnings and advice to residents.
