Noting an increase of 8.5 per cent of the population with a background of first or second generation migrants, compared to last year's figures, the Federal Statistics Office (Destatis) said it is the highest annual <x0-year arrival since the population census in early 2005”.
New statistics show that in 2016, some 18.6 million people in Germany were immigrants.

The extraordinary “Relation was mainly due to the high level of foreign immigration, including people seeking refuge, in 2015 and 2016”, said “Destatis” on Tuesday.
